This 107 needs a second look! Carry on reading to find out why! This is a 1984 Mercedes-Benz 380SL, finished in the most popular combination of Lapis Blue with Blue Check Fabric Interior and Dark Blue Soft Top. This is a nice car showing 110k Miles from new and a nice spec including rear seats and a Multi-Contour Drivers Seat! What is interesting is that after purchase by the previous owner in 2022, as a nice useable example, he enjoyed the car and wanted it to be his forever vehicle so entrusted Mercedes-Benz Specialists TM Motors with a program of ground up restoration work that came to £36,790.60!

In 1971 Mercedes-Benz launched a new range of convertible sports cars to replace the much loved Pagoda. Longer and wider than its predecessor the new R107 chassis featured front and rear crumple zones to meet the latest crash protection standards and was, inevitably, heavier. Like its forebears the newcomer was more sports-tourer than outright sports car and came equipped with all-independent suspension. At first fitted with 3.5 and 4.5 litre V8 engines Mercedes nimbly responded to the 1973 oil crisis by introducing a 2.8 litre model in October 1974. Bursting onto the scene in 1980, the 380SL was a replacement for the 280SL with a revised V8 engine focused on fuel efficiency rather than out and out power. The 380SL would continue until 1985 where it would be replaced by the 420SL. This 380SL’s 3.8-litre, 215bhp and 221lb/ ft of torque delivers a top speed of 134mph, which is mightily impressive for a car that was designed for comfort rather than speed. The V8 engine is what the R107 deserved, comfort and performance!

Our car is a UK car first registered on the 30th March 1984 and specified in Lapis Blue with Blue Check Fabric, matched with a Dark Blue soft top and Lapis Blue hard Top, some essential options were called for including the rear seat option, but also the Multi Contour Front Drivers seat, which we have never seen before! We do not have much in the way of early history but that changes in 2022 with the £36k invoice which is mainly a complete underbody restoration, resulting in a current MOT with No Advisories. The paintwork is in generally very good condition with the exception of the bootlid which has some blemishes. The interior is showing its age and would benefit from a seat retrim kit in the Blue Check or an upgrade to Blue or Beige Leather would look amazing too! She drives really well and the V8 really helps in daily use.

So this is a car you can hop in and use as it is but it would be great to build on the £36k of work done a couple of years ago and take the car to the next level, being a V8 with quite low mileage, she is definitely worth it!
