The Birmingham Small Arms Company Ltd. was established in the Small Heath area of Birmingham in 1861 and, as the name suggests, BSA manufactured weapons. Around the turn of the century, they started making bicycles and progressed to motorcycles a few years later. BSA went on to become one of the world’s largest producers of motorcycles until its demise in the early 1970s.
One of BSA’s first new civilian motorcycles after the Second World War, the 350cc B31 quickly established itself as one of the manufacturer’s most dependable single-cylinder machines. Derived from pre-war BSA overhead-valve designs developed by Val Page and refined during the war years, the B31 combined robust engineering with economical running costs and straightforward maintenance. It initially combined up-to-date telescopic forks with a straightforward rigid rear end, but before long it was improved with plunger rear suspension. It was credited with producing 17bhp and achieving around 70mph.
Our bike is a Gold Star Scrambler Replica which looks great and runs very nicely indeed, it is great value in the current market!
