This is probably the bargain of the summer! This is the rarest of the XK120 variants, a factory UK Supplied, RIght Hand Drive, 1953 Jaguar XK120 Drophead Coupe, which still has its matching numbers engine from new! She is finished in Cotswold Blue with Blue/Cream Interior and Black Soft Top. She is showing 57k Miles but this cannot be verified. We have a huge history going back to the Eighties and nearly £20k of recent expenditure also! The car was owned by Saatchi & Saatchi in the Eighties so has led a colourful life! Coming with Spats and steel wheels, this is real 50's film star spec!

Conceived and constructed in but a few months, the XK120 debuted at the 1948 Earls Court Motor Show where the stunning-looking roadster caused a sensation, the resulting demand for what was then the world’s fastest production car taking Jaguar by surprise. Its stunning appearance notwithstanding, the XK120 was conventional enough beneath the skin, being built on a separate chassis featuring independent front suspension by means of wishbones and torsion bars, a live rear axle and drum brakes all round. The car’s heart was, of course, the fabulous XK engine. Conceived in wartime and intended for Jaguar’s post-war range-topping saloon, the 3.4-litre six embodied the best of modern design, boasting twin overhead camshafts running in an aluminium-alloy cylinder head, seven main bearings and a maximum output of 160bhp. When installed in the lightweight XK120, the result was a car with a phenomenal power-to-weight ratio and blistering performance.

The XK120 set new standards of comfort, roadholding and performance for British sportscars and in keeping with the Jaguar tradition there was nothing to touch it at the price. Coupé and Drophead Coupé versions followed, and for customers who found the standard car too slow, there was the Special Equipment package that boosted power from 160 to 180bhp. With either engine and regardless of the type of bodywork, the XK120 was a genuine 120mph car capable of sustained high-speed cruising. Rarest of the three XK120 variants (just 1,769 Drophead Coupés were built compared with 7,631 Roadsters and 2,678 Fixed Head Coupés, with only 295 of the Drophead Coupes arriving in Right Hand Drive) this right-hand drive drophead represents Jaguar’s classic XK sports car in its early, purest form, with the added practicality of a folding hood and wind up windows!

Our car, chassis 667106, the 106th of 295 made! was manufactured on the 23rd October 1953 and sold new to a Mr. McCann through Henlys Manchester. He registered the car on the 17th August 1954, she was originally supplied in Suede Green with Suede Green Leather but was changed to the current The car Cotswold Blue during an Eighties Restoration. The car had a few owners in the early years and was off the road in the late seventies awaiting restoration which happened in the Eighties. An exacutive at Saatchi & Saatchi took a fancy for her and she must have been quite a sight cruising London in the late Eighties! The car is showing only 5 owners from new, and certainly the previous owner bought her 9 years ago and the penultimate owner 27 years before that! Our car was advertised for sale in a slightly better market a few years ago for £112k, the previous owner bought the car from Real Car as a project in 2016 for over £65k and has invested nearly £20k recently including the addition of a Guy Broad 5 Speed gearbox in 2020! So she drives well, has been recomissioned and is ready for her new home!

So, in summary, one of the rarest XK120 Drophead Coupes, Factory UK Supplied RHD, and Matching Numbers! Nearly £20k spent in the last few years and lovely upgrades! The loveliest Colour and a lovely older restoration patina! Whats not to like! and taking advantage of the current market, all this for £49,995, yep, we cant quite believe it either! Be quick!
