Interesting cars do get any rarer than this! It is a 1989 Aston Martin V8 Volante Zagato, One of only 37 made! When you consider that they made nearly 900 DB5's and they fetch £250k nowadays it is food for thought. Our car is a UK Right Hand Drive, Manual example finished in Red with Cream Leather interior. It has covered 7000 Miles from new and has had only 4 owners in that time. The car has recently been subject to a £15,000 recommissioning at Trinity Engineering after a period in a private collection and comes with a long MOT. Without a doubt the marriage of two of the most famous names in automotive history are a formidable force, the eighties styling is slightly out of fashion at the moment which is the reason for the ridiculously low price we are asking for this car. This will not always be the case!
"On the road, the Zagato eats up the long straights. Once moving its progress is magnificently effortless. Like most very fast cars, its as if it isnt constrained by the physical laws of gravity and air resistance. Unlike most very fast cars, however, it fools its driver into thinking that its blistering, growling pace is normal, comfortable, undramatic." - Motor.
With the introduction of the Vantage Zagato in 1986, Aston Martin renewed its association with one of Italy's most illustrious carrozzeria, Zagato having been responsible for that most celebrated and desirable of all post-war Aston Martins, the DB4GT. Neighbouring stands at the 1984 Geneva Salon facilitated the initial contact between Aston boss Victor Gauntlett and the Zagato brothers, and by following year the project had progressed sufficiently for Aston to accept deposits on the 50 production cars planned. The first prototype was shown to the public at Geneva in March 1986, and in June successfully met its design target by achieving a maximum speed of 186mph while on test with the French magazine Sport Auto. Part of Zagatos brief had been to shed some of the standard Vantages not inconsiderable weight, and this was achieved by the simple expedient of shortening the wheelbase by a little over 17 centimetres and deleting the rear seats, thus creating the first production two-seater since the DB4GT.
The 5.3-litre four-cam V8 was, naturally, to Vantage specification, producing a mind-bending 432bhp at 6,200rpm. The manner of its installation though, created a certain amount of controversy, the Zagatos low sloping bonnet, penned in the expectation of a fuel-injected engine, being marred by an unsightly bulge necessary to clear the Vantages quartet of Webers. Predictably, given the success of the coupe, a Zagato Volante convertible was not long in coming, the first example, a converted saloon, being exhibited in 1987. Intended only for the fuel-injected 320bhp engine, the Volante avoided its siblings bonnet bulge unless, of course, a customer specified an engine in Vantage tune. The Volante was intended to be even more exclusive than its closed cousin - 25 were planned initially, as opposed to 50 coupes - and in the event a total of 37 had been built by the time production ceased in 1990, making this one of the rarest and most desirable of open supercars as well as an exceptionally collectible Aston Martin
Interior:
The interior of our car is finished in Cream Leather and is pretty much as new. The seats are lovely and are not torn or ripped and all the door panels etc are in great condition. The carpet is great and the Dashboard is also good. All the instruments and dials work as they should and, on the whole, the interior is very nice indeed.
Exterior:
The exterior of our car is finished in Gladiator Red and this is one of the best colours for these cars. The actual quality of the paint is superb with the car having a deep shine. The wheels and tyres are very good and the car looks superb. The soft top is Black and also in very good condition and there is also a hood bag finished in Cream.
Mechanical:
Our car starts and runs just fine. Everything works as it should. The car has been serviced regularly and this is a good thing for any classic car. The gearbox changes smoothly and there are no undue knocks or rattles anywhere and everything feels very tight. There is a complete service history form Newport Pagnell and also a £15k Recon in 2005 including Diff Mountings, Suspension bushes, Brakes, Tyres, etc.
Summary
This is a rare and beautiful convertible from the worlds greatest manufacturer. The car has been recently serviced with invoices to show and is ready for the next owner. This car is incredibly undervalued as we speak but this will not last long. Aston Martin and Zagato, Convertible, 37 made, you simply cannot replicate these names and figures, this is a super rare car and is priced less than a normal non-Zagato car. You will find our car £20k less than the next one available and this is because we own it and we will sell it quickly! This represents a possibly unique opportunity to buy a blue chip car you can use extensively as it will still be low mileage, and with the prices of Astons going though the roof it will be interesting to see what happens in the next year or two!
